What Are You Doing For Halloween?

Halloween is around the corner, and once again all of us are scrambling to find to the perfect costume. Some of us have parties to attend, and some just want to dress up along with the kids. So, what about the rest of us? I, for instance, have absolutely nothing planned for the much anticipated holiday, and yet I find myself googling “homemade Halloween costumes” every chance I get. Why is it so important that we dress up, even if we don’t have anywhere to go? I asked one of my close friends to try and find out the answer. ~ Jessica: So, Nicole have you decided what you’re going to be for Halloween this year? Nicole: Right now I’m between a pirate and a kitty cat. Jessica: Those are two classic costumes. Why are you still stuck between the two choices? Nicole: Well, the kitty cat costume is a lot more comfortable. The pirate costume is a lot more revealing,.. Jessica: Comfort seems to be the way to go. Don’t you think? Nicole: Well, yeah, if I stay at home I’ll probably dress up as the cat. If I decide to go to a party, I’ll probably dress up as the pirate. Jessica: So, let me get this straight, you’ve been planning costumes even though you don’t have any definite plans. Nicole: (laughs) Yeah. I mean, its Halloween, I have to do something, you know? Jessica: I’ m not quite sure I do… Why is it so important that you dress up for Halloween? Nicole: It’s nostalgic. Even if I don’t have anywhere to go, dressing up is fun, and it reminds me of the good old days when we were kids and would go trick or treating. Jessica: So, dressing up is about reliving your childhood? Nicole: Not exactly. It just seems like if we have one day of the year to dress however we choose, without judgment, we should take advantage of that. Jessica: Oh, I see. That makes perfect sense. Do you mind if I borrow your answer for a blog post I’m writing. Nicole: No, go right ahead. Just make sure you quote me saying, “trick or treat, smell my feet, give me something good to eat, or a fun party to go to.” ~ So, it seems that the most important part about Halloween isn’t where you’re going, but who you’re being. Halloween is a nostalgic time for us to get in touch with our inner child and eat all the candy we want. It’s also a time where we can be whomever we want., a pirate, a cat, an alien. Halloween is a time where we can express ourselves, wear crazy makeup and hair, and fit right in with the crowd. And like Nicole said, we should all take advantage of that. So, what are you going to be this year?
